Maya Storybook is a continuing work of illustrations
based on Mayan folktales. They tell of the perils of Vanity, Passion, Power, and Greed. Ms. Hatley has closely studied surviving Mayan wall paintings, stone carvings, codices, and painted vessels that show a life full of ritual, sacrifice, and magic. Her paintings bring to life the Gods and creatures in their fantastic costumes that inhabited the imagination of Mayan artists and scribes so long ago.
